Just to add some more data - not too different:
On one of 3 Web caches we get (real data using Calamaris):
status request % kByte % sec
kB/sec
--------------------------------- -------- ------ --------- ------ ----
-------
HIT 286999 39.02 1202465 17.68 0 9.65
and this breaks down to:
# Requested content-type
content-type request % kByte %
hit-%
--------------------------------------- -------- ------ --------- ------
------
image/gif 386411 52.54 1207627 17.75
60.21
text/html 149161 20.28 1144933 16.83
8.05
image/jpeg 81330 11.06 832027 12.23 32.84
which to me implies there is a lot of generated (ie ASP etc) HTML out there.
This is with 8Gb of cache and LRU of currently: 2.86 days.
Having siblings & parents helps. Our max cache object size is 32Mb.
