Cache manager design

Hi all,
   I'm cheching the vache manager to see how easy it would be to alias
the cachemgr URL the way we recently discussed.
I found an unexpected pattern, hunting at a design target of having
multiple cache manager objects. I fail to see what would be the goal,
as I'd go for a Singleton instead..
Can anyone help me better understand?
