Hello from germany,
first of all i have to say that i am not very familiar with linux because at
my job i am more specialized to the windows and networking subjects. - But i
always try my very best and read a lot of manuals, but sometimes i got stuck
because no command in any manual work as it should, and now this is it was
happens when i try to upgrade our squid to a newer version.
Our problem in detail: We have here an existing SLES 11 SP2 server (no gui,
only console) which runs Squid 3.1.12 (vmware virtual machine), which
generally runs fine, but we experience some problems on some websites when
the connected clients use the IE 9 or IE10. I discussed the specific problem
earlier on the squid users mailing list, and it was suggested to me to
upgrade my squid - perhaps in a first try to the latest 3.1.XX version.
I don´t know how the squid 3.1.12 server was initially installed on this
server, but as it looks for me it was installed by the "zypper install
squid3" command from the novell repository SLES11 has integrated by default.
If i run a "zypper install squid3" command now on this server it connects to
the repo nu.novell.com and a message appears that there is no update
candidate for squid3.1.12XXXXXX, because the highest available version is
already installed. The most manuals on the web uses RPM packets or the MAKE
UNINSTALL command, but none of them works with the install i have here. So i
need a little bit of support how to start the upgrade, because no way of
upgrading that was described in the manuals i found with google search
worked for me so far. (I have no experience how i can add another repository
to zypper, which have perhaps a newer squid version available, if that is
the way i have to go for upgrading)
For testing purposes i setup a virtual vmware environment in my home lab
which has a win7 client connected to the original squid server i earlier
copied from work and which is now running in my home lab. - I tested that it
has the same problem with IE9 and IE10 in my "simple" home environment, so
it is a good test if an upgrade to squid 3.1.xx or newer will solve our
problem. - Because it is a virtual machine in my home environment it is very
easy to test any suggestions from you, because when something doesn´t work i
can get back to an earlier snapshot of this machine. (Perhaps somebody want
to assist me by a dial in connection, that is also possible and no danger
for both sides because it is only a test environment and if something goes
wrong it is no big deal ;) )
I tried e.g. this manual (
http://myconfigure.blogspot.de/2013/04/upgrade-squid-3122-to-333.html ), but
there is not any directory on the whole server which name is "Squid 3.1.12"
and where i can run the "make uninstall" command. - As earlier mentioned,
when i run the "zypper install squid3" command, i get the notice that no
newer release as squid 3.1.12 is available.
So, any ideas what to do ?
