Perhapse instead of rolling backwards to 2.7 you could roll forwards and
try to the latest versions?
3.4.2 is the current stable and supported Squid version. The 3.1.* and
2.7.* releases are all very old and filled with hundreds of known and
now-fixed bugs, and a handful of major security vulnerabilities.
