The Squid HTTP Proxy team is very pleased to announce the
availability of the Squid-3.4.0.2 beta release!
The Squid-3.4 series is dedicated to Dmitry Kurochkin who died
in an accident on July 21, 2013. His work directly underpins several
of the major and popular performance and stability changes for
recent and upcoming Squid-3 series.
This new 3.4 series of Squid brings useful new features and changes
providing improved stability over earlier release series.
More detailed descriptions of the major new features are available in
the release notes and wiki:
http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v3/3.4/RELEASENOTES.html
http://wiki.squid-cache.org/Squid-3.4
Detailed lists of the ./configure build and squid.conf changes can also
be found in the release notes.
This code is released as beta for wider testing purposes and potential
use. There are several features we still hope to improve further before
production release. However there are no more planned alterations to
the existing ./configure options or squid.conf options.
All users of Squid-2.7 Store-URL feature will want to start looking at
the Store-ID feature incorporated with this series. It polishes and
cleans up a number of issues found in the experimental 2.7 feature.
All developers of helper scripts or tools will want to start looking at
the new helper protocol extensions. Error reporting with BH result
code from any helper improves re-try capabilities when errors are
caused by the helper instead of the user. Ability to annotate any
transaction from a helper with arbtrary notes (key=value tags)
allows far more flexible control and logging than ever before.
Users with networks containing multicast DNS (.local) services will
be happy to hear Squid now fully supports mDNS resolution of
those service names without requiring additional DNS resolver
support or configuration. Due to PTR queries over mDNS being
very "chatty" the feature is disabled by default. Details on
how to enable this can be found in the release notes.
