You need to follow the installation instructions.

You can only start the service once the configuration is correctly set up.

Most likely it aborts with an fatal error due to configuration error or
missing files/directories.

try the following in order listed:

Verify your configuration: "squid -k parse"

Create cache directory: "squid -z"

Start interactively: "squid -DNYCd1"
