[squid-users] Cache HITS are not consistent

Hello,

I recently setup Squid and am currently testing it, and it seems that the caching which Squid does is very inconsistent.

For example, when I access www.nytimes.com from 1 machine, and then attempt to access www.nytimes.com from another machine, I see that some items get cached and some do not.

Below is 1 link which I tried accessing from 1.1.1.1 and then from 1.1.1.2 and then again from 1.1.1.1.
The link did not get cached at all, and I am not sure why.

Some items however do get cached as seen below:

A snip of my config is:

cache_mem 384 MB
cache_swap_low 90
cache_swap_high 95
maximum_object_size 4096 KB
minimum_object_size 0 KB
maximum_object_size_in_memory 8 KB
cache_replacement_policy lru
memory_replacement_policy lru
cache_dir ufs /usr/local/squid/var/cache 1000 160 256

I have tried clearing the browser cache and this sometimes creates HITS where previously there were none HITS.

Any help in understand the above "odd" behavior is appreciated...thank you.
