My understanding is that persistent authentication is not inherent in
Squid. Presently, my system is authenticating against a MySQL database.
Depending on the browser used, the users must reauthenticate everytime
they open another instance of the browser. Microsoft IE works that way,
the Redhat browser does not. Evidently the Redhat browser saves and
resends the authentication info. Unfortunately, most people use
Microsoft.
The only viable alternative that I've heard of is using ident. But this
requires sending a bit of code to each user to run on their PCs.
My question is: Is there any way to authenticate via a cookie? Where
the cookie retains the login information for Squid.
Any comments or experience in doing this?
Thanks - Jack
