[squid-users] Squid + The Linux kernel - 2.2 or 2.4

hi all..

i was wondering... my Linux distro has been improving
its flavor of Linux, and the last three major releases
have come with the 2.4 Linux kernel as the default...
however, i have always maintained my Squid on the
2.2.19-SMP kernel, even with upgraded Linux
software...

the reason i have kept to 2.2.19 is because most of
the fora and info out there on Squid have Squid
running fastest on the 2.2.19 kernel, as compared to
the 2.4 kernel...

i have two questions:

first, why is this so, if so?

second, as the support for the 2.4 kernel increases,
won't there be a time when the most recent Linux
distros will totally forget about the 2.2.19 kernel,
in terms of module support, and more so, where
utilities shipped in the distro rely on a
specification version of their related module in the
kernel, for instance, the "mkreiserfs" command and the
"reiserfs.o" kernel module..?..
