[squid-users] squid-2.5.STABLE1 - file descriptor shortage

I'm running squid under Solaris 8 on a Sparc Netra t1 box with 1 GB RAM
and 2 GB swap space. Cache is located on two partitions on two different
harddisks.
This morning I upgraded squid from 2.5.PRE5 to 2.5.STABLE1. As you may
see in the portitions of my cache.log file, the problems began shortly
after that. I didn't realize it first, so it filled the cache.log with
around 190 MB of logs during about 4 hours. It seems to have a serious
problem with opening files and/or file descriptors ... at 11:27 a.m. it
shut itself down (see log).
I tried to increase the number of available file descriptors of the
running squid instances with the os command 'plimit <pid>' to 4096
(standard is 1024 on Solaris 8). I'm not sure if the file descriptor
limit of squid (DEFAULT_FD_SETSIZE and/or SQUID_MAXFD) is more
restrictive (i.e. I have to recompile from source with bigger values set
in 'include/autoconf.h') ???
Nevertheless that did not sovlve my problem and I consequently
downgraded back to 2.5.PRE5. No problems anymore since then ...

Any hints/help would be appreciated.
