[squid-users] cache_dir null

Hello.

I am trying to configure Squid 2.4stable6 on a RedHat Linux 7.3 system. I
don't want Squid to cache anything, I basically just want it installed to
utilize its logs so I can monitor user intranet and Internet traffic.
I realize that in order for Squid to not cache I must build in support for
the null store type but I'm not sure how to go about this.

I have tried editing the squid.conf file and also adding the word "null" in
Makefiles under my /etc/squid directory where I see "ufs" or "aufs" and
recompiling Squid but that doesn't seem to work. I do have a
"/etc/squid/src/fs/null" directory that looks like this:
[root@coachhouse null]# ls -l
total 20
-rw-r--r-- 1 1001 wheel 977 Dec 8 2000 Makefile.in
-rw-r--r-- 1 1001 wheel 4611 Mar 1 2001 store_dir_null.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 1001 wheel 2469 Jan 11 2001 store_io_null.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 1001 wheel 360 Dec 8 2000 store_null.h

I'm not familiar with monkeying with makefiles to make this sort of thing
work and the only documentation and mail archives I find
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=squid-users&w=2&r=1&s=cache_dir+null&q=b)
that seem to relate to this problem don't give specifics on it either.

Any help on how to configure this would be appreciated.
Thank you.
