For obvious security reasons HTTP cannot support proxy authentication unless
the browser is configured to use a proxy. Why should your browser send your
users proxy login credentials to what it thinks is random web servers on the
internet who claims to be a proxy?

This documented is in the FAQ and in the comments in squid.conf.
