For someone who doesn't already know the answer, the heading
reference to WPAD is IMHO more than a little cryptic.

As the FAQ rightly notes, discussion of the details is off-topic for
this list. But as long as this useful-looking note is in the squid
FAQ, might I suggest making it a little easier to find, for someone
who's looking for MSIE "Automatically detect settings" but has never
heard of WPAD?
