You should not have needed to do anything after replacing the cable..
the messages should have stopped at most a few minutes after fixing the
communication error.
Running without the internal DNS client is likely to hit you even worse
if there ever is any kind of DNS trouble, local or remote. Also, making
a denial of service is almost trivial when using the old dnsserver DNS
client.
