[squid-users] squid growing in memory

Good Morning,
    I am running squid 2.4.Stable.2 on a BSDI 4.2 server with 512 MB of ram.
whenever squid receives a large number of requests, it grows to 450 MB in
memory. Is there a way to limit the size of squid in memory? Or is this
normal behavior for squid.
