1) the service code in that tarball _alpha_. There is more advanced
service code on the way - Guido is doing a great job. So please try
without --enable-win32-serivce.

2) Can we see the whole cache.log please? Henrik has indicated that 504
probably means broken DNS, but that HEAD version of squid should read
the DNS servers out of the registry - we need to see if that is broken.

The comSetNoLinger option is harmless. I haven't found a way to make
cygwin set the equivalent option on it's win32 sockets. It means that
sockets may sit around for a short while after being closed.
