it not only can. it SHOULD.

first install IDE patch from hedrick. then do hdparm -u 1 -a 0 -A 1 -W
1. should be enough

on both. on SCSI only -a 0 make sense.
for SCSI use scsiinfo tools to enable write caching on drive if it's not
