The fact that this works at all should be viewed as a fluke. :-)

There is a really really good reason as to why ^M isn't part of the
valid characters in a request URI, and that is because is it the
carrage return (or end of line) character and should only appear
when you wish to terminate the end of line.

We could make squid's parser work with this, but it would be much better
for everyone if people complained at the website and doubleclick to get
rid of the ^M.

I don't think its deliberate - its probably a typo somewhere (or some
DOS/UNIX mis-interaction with text ..)
