It cannot hurt to have a /etc/resolv.conf even if you have NIS
running, ultimately the NIS server should be configured to look at DNS
anyway so you should copy the resolv.conf from that (assuming your DNS
server is reachable from the squid server). A minimal resolv.conf
would look like:
domain your.domain.name.here
nameserver ip_address_of_dns_server
You can have multiple nameserver lines.
