So? This is a sum of all memory allocated (and possibly freed), and will
grow as long as Squid irs running. It does not tell that Squid is this
big. It tells you one (quite useless) aspect of the memory workload, not
how much memory is being used.

Looks normal for a small Squid (only 40K objects in cache, ~500MB cache
I guess). What do you think is wrong?
