Ahh.  If I understand your problem - When you are speaking to a proxy
you need to specify the full URL, not the path, so option 2 should be
        telnet domain.com 80
        GET http://domaintogoto.com HTTP/1.0\r\n\r\b
because you are not connected to a web server.
