I've seen hit rates around 45% by bytes, using a cache area of around 4 x 36Gb
caches, tuned refresh rules and max object size around 16Mb (among other
things). The hit rate was at times above 50% but that was artificially
high since we had a "cache search engine" at the time which people used to
search the URLs in the cache and find things already downloaded.
