In this particular case the cause is most likely how Sun handles
filesystem fragmentation. Recommended actions is to
1. Patch the Sun with the current recommended patch set (see
http://sunsolce.sun.com/)
2. newfs to cache partition(s) to get rid of filesystem layout bugs that
was present in early versions of Solaris 2.6 which makes the problem
worse.
3. Configure the cache filesystems to optimize for space (see man
tunefs)
