I see. AFAIK, Squid does not support Digest authentication yet. If
somebody donates a module to do digest authentication, you will have a
semi-secured way of authorizing your users, I guess.

Unfortunately, with browser bugs like when "secure" information meant
for SSL is passed via un-encrypted channels, you cannot be sure
everything is working as expected even if Squid does its part...
