Squid on IDE

Hi all,

        I have squid 1.22 installed in alinux whith: 49Mb RAM and 4.3GB IDE HD.
First I thought that squit was going to work just fine but know I can see
that my conection whith squid is VERY slow. I can download a simple page
faster with my backbone than squid.
        I think this is the IDE HD problem (and memory too). Do I have to use SCSI
to work better? Did anyone had problems with IDE HD's and little memory??
