malloc

I want to use an external malloc library for squid, in squid FAQ there it
recommends
2 different malloc libraries, one is malloc and the other is dmalloc

I do not know which one is better, or what advantages they have on each
other...
how may I find information about them? or is anyone using one of them?

and how may I know the performance change after I use one of them ?
