For a generic filter/replace, you can read the Squid FAQ on
Redirectors. I'm using the 'squirm' redirector locally to filter out
advertising banners (redirect to a 1x1 transparent gif), and to
redirect some sites to mirrored copies in the UK.

Squirm is a snap to setup, and the pattern redirection quite powerful.
