hit?

This may be a stupid question, but as I haven't used Squid so far:

The statistics programm called "squid-stats" (or the logging
procedure itself) considers a hit:

a) only when the web server isn't contacted (the cache has up-to-date
file and returns it to user without anyhow letting the Web
server know)

b) also when the Web server returns Status code 304 (Not modified)
