Abnormal Termination

Sometimes our Squid terminates abnormally after receiving a SIGUSR1 for
log-rotating. I find follwoing lines in cahe.log:

98/03/19 01:00:18| storeWriteCleanLog: Starting...
98/03/19 01:00:21| 4096 lines written so far.
98/03/19 01:00:21| 8192 lines written so far.
98/03/19 01:00:22| Finished. Wrote 8422 lines.
98/03/19 01:00:22| Took 2 seconds (4211.0 lines/sec).
FATAL: Failed to fork() for ftpget.
Squid Cache (Version 1.1.18): Terminated abnormally.

We use Squid on sparc-sun-solaris2.4.
Sow what could be the reason ??
