Running Squid as root

I have just installed squid and it run fine. Only thing is that I can't
seem to run it as root. Since I would like to start it when the machine
boots, this is desirable. How can I do this ? I keep getting error
messages about can't open /usr/local/squid/logs/cache.log , access.log.
