Parents and Peers

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with parents and peers. My squid is set up with 2
peers and 3 parents.

The 2 peers are seldom used. Most likely their RTT is longer than the
parents, 39 - 55 mS vs 26 - 33 mS. However the peers cost me nothing
but the parents do. Is there is way to tell squid to use the peers
whenever possible?

With the parents, I thought there will not no direct traffic. They
should be all sent to the parents. But Calamaris told me a different
story. Everyday, there are still about 23% of the traffic goes direct.
Is this a bug in squid or a mistake in my settings.

Here is exerpt of my config file.

cache_host parent1 parent 8080 3130 weight=10
cache_host parent2 parent 8080 3130 weight=10
cache_host parent3 parent 8080 3130 weight=10
cache_host peer1 sibling 8080 3130 weight=40
cache_host peer2 sibling 8080 3130 weight=40
