FAQ 5.8 + browsers configured?

5.8 How can I make my users' browsers use my cache
without configuring the browsers for proxying?
I read and understand these setting for the squid conf.

Here are the important settings in squid.conf:

        http_port 80
        icp_port 3130
        httpd_accel virtual 80
        httpd_accel_with_proxy on

This topic is convered and I understand it but my question is:
Can I have browsers still configured to proxy at 3128 working or not
after applying the settings from 5.8? I do not want to cause problems
these workstations. 300-400:(
