I use fastfs with squid on Solaris 2.5.1. And squid works well.
1. Get ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/inn/unoff-contrib/fastfs.c
2. gcc -o fastfs fastfs.c
3. fastfs /your/spool/filesystem fast
