Squid not storing anything

My squid 1.1.16 seems to work ok - I am using 3 parents

cache_host sv.cache.nlanr.net parent 3128 3130 default
cache_host sd.cache.nlanr.net parent 3128 3130
cache_host pa.cache.nlanr.net parent 8080 8082

Problem is this - I'd like to store stuff on my server and deliver it as
a hit if I have it, then go to a parent site if I do not have the
requested item.

Well, I must have made an error in my configuration somewhere, because
all i seem to do is query the 3 parents above, and nothing ever gets
stored here.

I have a /usr/local/squid/cache/log and
/usr/local/squid/cache/log-last-clean - both are at 0
