ftpget-problem getting files from ftp.freebsd.org

Hi,
we're using squid-1.1.16 on SGI IRIX 6.2. We have problems to get files
from ftp.freebsd.org.
(Directory : ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/2.2.2-RELEASE/bin/ )
Trying to get a file with an unknown extension (ex. bin.aa) results in an
error-message:

The following error was encountered: 
     No Object Data 
This means that: 
    The remote server closed the connection before sending any data.
----
and in the cache.log:
----
97/09/12 09:42:47| ERR_ZERO_SIZE_OBJECT: ftp://ftp.de.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/2.2.2-RELEASE/bin/bin.aa

Is this a ftpget-bug, or can we configure anything to solve the problem ??
