Child mistakes no answer from parent for connect failed?

I have a problem with my child proxies where they report

> Connection Failed

>The system returned:

> (60) Connection timed out

Then you click on the URL in the error message and the answer comes up
straight away. This problem does not occur if I remove the parent
proxies from the config. It is an intermittant problem, but frequent
enough to cause trouble. :(

The log entry on the child process says:

873356773.619 75093 130.102.128.96 ERR_CONNECT_FAIL/400 888 GET
http://squid.nlanr.net/Squid/1.1/patches.html -FIRST_PARENT_MISS/proxy2.questnet.net.au -

No entry appears on the Parent proxy2.questnet.net.au logs- access or
cache log.

Ideas anyone???

Squid 1.1.14 on Digital Unix.
