I know this isn't a squid problem, but it's probably worthwhile mailing it
anyway for those who may experience similar things. It seems the FDDI
interface was, indirectly, the cause of the problems.
It seems that someone between here and www.sgi.com has configured their
router to not fragment packets and only allow packet sizes of a max. of
1500 bytes. After reconfiguring the FDDI interface to have an MTU of 1500
(down from around 4300), all was well... Not an ideal solution by any
means, but it works.
