That's one approach, which works if you can persuade your customers to use
the auto-conf script and the versions of the browsers which support it.

This isn't always the case (and certainly wasn't when we first looked at
the problem).

Our solution was to create the same virtual IP address on each machine
which we put in the DNS as 'webcache'. We then put static routes in for
this IP address such that wherever you dial in, you get routed to the
nearest cache.

It isn't pretty, but it does work, and means that people get the nearest
cache even if they don't have auto-conf available.
