BIND 4.9.4 (maybe 4.9.3 - have to look it up) are strict about the '_' character in lookups. I believe there
is a config directive to make BIND lax about this but I don't recommend it. Admins should know their stuff...

Anyways, this has nothing to do with Squid. Unless Squid is doing something lese than just using the resolver.
