url_get cache_object://localhost/stats/objects | awk '{print $2}' >
the-file

(assuming http_proxy is properly defined)

This needs a unofficial version of url_get:

ftp://ftp.pasteur.fr/pub/computing/unix/network/url_get

Warning: this can be a high load for the Squid process.
