How do I start Squid

A few minutes ago, I have installed Squid 1.1 beta 7 and I have
encountered the following problem: How do I start squid? Whenever I
execute `squid &', the process is halted because of tty input. When I
do `fg' and CTRL-Z, `bg' after that, squid seems to work fine.

The same happens when I use RunCache to start squid.
