If the changes are not huge, I would recommend posting a patch on
bugzilla. Otherwise, you probably want to setup a separate development
branch for your work.
If you can, please port your changes to Squid3 so that they do not have
to be discarded or ported again down the road. Since Squid3 is using
bzr, you do not need any special assistance to start and maintain your
