Simple object server?

Folks -

I was hoping someone on this list would have a recommendation for me. I'm
looking for a simple web server that I can use as a backend to serve
requests to a Squid cache. I could use Apache, but the headers I want to
serve with each request are stored on disk with that request (which, I
think would require some major hacking of mod_headers, at the very least).

Does anyone have suggestions? My preference is C/C++.
