With Squid-2.5 there is a very flexible interface where you can plug
in custom programs into the ACL processing of Squid. Among other
things this can be used to interface with a program that
authenticates the user based on his IP address, optionally even
returning a username to be used for logging purposes.
See the external_acl_type directive in squid.conf.default, and/or
http://devel.squid-cache.org/external_acl/
I know people have successfully used this new interface to integrate
Squid via Radius to automatically authenticate the user by his dialin
account for some ISPs.
