Here's a useful trick:
Apply the autoconf-25 patch to your working dirs and bootstrap. That
gives you complete autoconf feature use.
Before committing, patch -R -p1 the autoconf-25 patch against your
working dir. That should (nearly always) backout neatly (maybe with a
little fuzz).
