I'm quite confident of the 3c905's under Linux 2.0.37. I haven't tried 2.2.x
yet, since Debian haven't put out a 2.2.x distribution yet.
3c590's - Vortex cards - completely die under load in Linux however (FreeBSD
has a workaround for a bug which Linux doesn't handle).
Also possible is that it was Linux dying under load - there are a lot of
things which need tuning if you have a lot of network sockets or route cache
entries, even more in 2.2.x than in 2.0.x. (I have a network scanner which
has a habit of killing people's boxes when they run it without appropriate
kernel tuning - but works in 2.0.36, 2.0.37 and 2.2.10 with appropriate
tuning of /proc variables - most of the other kernels it dies due to route
cache bugs.)
